This week’s Friday Fictioneers one hundred word challenge. Hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields.
The landlord stipulated three colours: white, black or ecru.
Eva wanted to paint the front door lilac. She asked permission, politely and he declined, rudely.
“Why one of those colours?” One of which wasn’t much different from the other.
He replied, because I say so.
It was the kind of thing she said to her youngest daughter in an exasperated tone. She wouldn’t say it again.
Defiantly, she painted the door lilac and waited.
Three years passed and not a word of complaint from him. Her next door neighbour painted his green.
Apparently, the landlord had never visited their town.
Ha, that sounds like a typical landlord in my experience! Nice take.

Dear Rae,
I’d say she has nothing to worry about. I want to paint our front door purple but my husband disagrees. Sigh.
Shalom,
Rochelle

Like Clare, I like the fact she gave it a go and ended up with her lovely door. I wonder if her daughter will take inspiration from her mum and rebel too? Great tale 🙂
