Nature in all its glory

It’s everywhere, about us, above and below. Even when I lived in a city, there were green parks, the fat pigeons, the wood lice in the grim corners, the weeds in the pavement cracks and the rain clouds puffing their way across the sky. When I want to escape I can head off into the hills or the forests, or like I am now, stay by the sea.

The natural world is the best inspiration when all else fails. Having been brought up on a diet of David Attenborough’s documentaries, which took me to the farthest places of the planet, I’m in constant awe of the variety and beauty of life.  If I’m stumped for ideas, nature encourages me to think again, to look harder and remind me not only of the multitude of opportunities and thrills, but the peace and tranquillity of existence.

How I wish we didn’t squander what precious gifts we’ve been given, but remember to treat this whole planet as our home to be shared with all who live here.

Today’s book is a series. I have a collection of Dorling Kindersley definitive visual guides on the Earth, Universe, Animals and Birds.  I can pour over them for hours, lose track of time and come away amazed.

I love nature and grew up with it around me. One time, we lived in an apartment that didn’t have even a yard and it kind of sucked. We were able to walk to a nearby park at least.

I lived in central London for a time and I craved green spaces of parks, which in a dry year were more yellow and dirt. I’m lucky in that I grew up in the country and could see the Milky Way at night.

I love nature. Though I live in a city, I always feel much more at home in nature!
