Been absent for far too long, so to break back into things, I’m jumping into Friday Fictioneers. This week’s photo prompt and my 100 word tale.

“Well, what do you think?”
He eyed it, stood over it, but didn’t touch it. “It’s stripy.”
“Yeah, I thought it would spice up your office.”
A colourless shell and devoid of character. Every time she walked into the room, she’d wanted to re-decorate it.
There was a long pause. “I’m not sure about the zig-zag pattern.”
She snatched the mouse up and tossed it back in her handbag. “Fine. It was just an impulsive buy.”
A week later, she placed a mouse mat on her boss’s desk. He rejected that alteration with a, “Too spotty.”

Funny, I found myself taking the boss’ side in this (I love it when you can go either way with a story). He may prefer a style she finds boring, but how rude for someone to just waltz in and try to change your office for you! I think he’s being very patient. 😉

There’s a lot of attitude in that “fine”. I often express myself with a well placed “fine”. Glad to see your writing again.

Even though he rejects the flashy, there is a good understanding between them. Maybe she can convince him with a lively colour, but a solid pattern. Great characters.
