In perpetuity. Wasn’t that the commitment? Day after day of togetherness. Except Muriel had married a mathematician and one obsessed with fractals.

The patterns she loved. He generated pictures, turning shapes into works of art, covering the walls of their apartment. The hours and hours of complex analysis were less thrilling. The cosy geometry of their life started to fracture along new lines, sending her spiralling into a depressing abyss.

One evening, she lay a round pebble on his desk by his notepad.

“What’s this?” he asked, pausing mid-calculation.

“It’s finite. Like our marriage.”

The morning light brought bare walls and an empty desk.

Great idea, I love the language of fractals. I hope she saved the marriage.

The wasp’s nest gave me the idea. She might just have done, the ending is open.

      He’s probably re-calculating the situation!

    Moral of the story?
He may have been a mathematician, but you couldn’t count on him.

Very clever. The geometrical images in this week’s prompt were just begging for someone to notice and run with them. You did it very pleasingly.
